Active protection vs. Passive barrier
Intercept performs better than traditional barrier materials

Developed by Bell Labs more than 20 years ago, Intercept was specifically designed to overcome the shortcomings of traditional packaging materials in the field. Quite simply, it creates an active barrier rather than a passive one and shrouds your assets with a stronghold of one-of-a-kind corrosion control and static protection. Intercept is a disruptive technology, providing process improvement from manufacturing to the end-user, saving money, time, and worry.

Traditional materials problematic

Intercept provides something different: a reactive barrier to corrosive gases. Traditional
materials like foil packaging (dry pack method) are simply passive barriers. They work on the dry method of preservation which require less than 37% RH (relative humidity) to work on
ferrous metals. Foil packaging demands complete hermetic seals, where even a single pin-hole in the foil or break in the seal can render the packaging ineffective. Foils are not recyclable or reusable, and are not easily resealed in the field or at customs.

Non-ferrous metals (such as Silver) have no humidity dependency, so foils and dry packaging offer no real protection.

These metals corrode primarily due to corrosive gases, not moisture. They require other packaging methods which depend on volatile chemicals and oils. These packaging products have a definite shelf life and a limit on their usefulness, as well as VOC issues (volatile organic compounds). Some volatile packaging also has potential legal restrictions in Europe.

For any shipments going to Asia, the length of protection period may be even shorter. Due to severe levels of atmospheric pollution (as much as 200 times higher than here in the U.S.) non-ferrous metals are often corroding in days or weeks instead of what was traditionally seen in months or years.

Intercept works better

Because foils are passive, they provide only inert barrier properties. Intercept works differently, performing as an active barrier. The Intercept material becomes a torturous path for corrosive gases – including Sulfur, Chlorine, Ozone, Nitrous gases, etc. Intercept’s robust protection prevents the gases from penetrating the bag, plus Intercept cleanses the interior

air space, creating a neutralized microenvironment inside – free from destructive corrosive gases. By eliminating the fuel for corrosion you’re protecting your assets and all their components: both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, rubber, plastics, fabrics, paint, and more.

Intercept is the only anti-corrosion material that has been awarded a prestigious German
Government Environmental Award for being the preferred anti-corrosion packaging. Intercept contains no oils, no volatiles, and no contaminates, and it does not outgas. It has accelerated breakdown in landfills, and is fully recyclable and reusable. It is easily reclosed in the field and at customs. The ESD protection is permanent, as ESD values on the films and bags are normally 10e6 to 10e9 Ohms/Sq, the ideal ESD range.
